Building a site with HostPapa

Web and WordPress hosting plans run on cPanel with the Softaculous one-click installer, so WordPress and other apps install in a few clicks. Every plan includes a staging environment for testing changes, and HostPapa migrates an existing site for free. HostPapa also sells a separate website builder and do-it-for-me design services. Trusthost has not bought a test account to walk through this flow first-hand; this is based on HostPapa's own pages and Websiteplanet's review.

HostPapa pricing

HostPapa's headline prices need a 3-year term and apply to that first term only. At renewal on the same term, Essentials goes from $2.95 to $8.99/mo, Growth from $5.95 to $13.99/mo and Premium from $6.95 to $19.99/mo. Shorter renewal terms cost more: Essentials renews at $10.99/mo on a 1-year term and $12.99 month to month. HostPapa publishes every renewal price on its Renewal Pricing page.

What is HostPapa in 2026?

HostPapa is a Canadian web host founded in 2006 and based in Burlington, Ontario. It says more than 500,000 website owners use it, and in April 2026 it acquired the Seattle host Hostwinds. Shared hosting starts at $2.95/mo on a 3-year term, and the range runs up to managed VPS, reseller and dedicated servers, from data centers in Toronto, Los Angeles, Buffalo, Miami and Amsterdam.

What do you get on a HostPapa web hosting plan?

The four plans range from Essentials (1 website, 25 GB NVMe) to Elite (unlimited websites, unmetered NVMe and 8X the server resources). Every plan includes a free domain for the first year, a CDN, a standard SSL certificate, a staging environment, Imunify360 malware protection with a web application firewall, and free website migration. Automated backups are free for the first year, up to 1 GB. The optimized WordPress plans use the same prices and limits.

How transparent is HostPapa about renewals?

More than most. HostPapa publishes a Renewal Pricing page that lists every plan's renewal price on 1-month, 1-, 2- and 3-year terms. Essentials renews at $8.99/mo on a 3-year term, $10.99 on a 1-year term and $12.99 month to month. The "Save 77%" badge on the plan card compares the intro price with the month-to-month rate, so the real saving against a 3-year renewal is smaller, about 67%. Managed WordPress and dedicated servers renew at the same price you start on.

What should you watch out for?

The cheapest prices require a 3-year commitment, and entry plans roughly triple at renewal. Performance is middling: in Websiteplanet's test, a WordPress site loaded in about 1.8 seconds with a time to first byte around 1 second, although uptime held at 99.98% over 30 days. The same reviewer found two upsells preselected at checkout.

Is HostPapa right for you?

Good fit if…

Good fit if you want low-cost cPanel hosting with real 24/7 phone support, a Canadian or US data center, and renewal prices you can check before you sign up.

Better to avoid if…

Better to avoid if you don't want to commit to 3 years for the advertised price, or if raw speed matters most; independent tests put HostPapa's response times behind faster rivals.

Steve Platt is an independent web hosting analyst with over 12 years of hands-on experience - from running his own VPS and dedicated servers, through client migrations, to testing dozens of hosting providers under real traffic conditions.

His career started as a system administrator at a small agency, where he saw firsthand the gap between marketing spec sheets and actual performance under load. That experience shaped his "test before you recommend" approach - every provider he reviews goes through his own uptime, load-speed, and support-quality checks before getting a rating.

Steve writes for TrustHost with a focus on the practical side of choosing a host - what actually matters for small businesses and developers, not what reads well on a landing page. Outside of editorial work, he handles server configuration tuning and DNS/domain troubleshooting.
