Overview
SiteGround was founded in 2004 in Sofia, Bulgaria, and remains privately held. It reports over 3 million domains on its platform and employs 600+ people, with offices in Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Madrid. SiteGround moved its entire hosting infrastructure to Google Cloud Platform in 2020 and replaced cPanel with its own Site Tools control panel in 2019.

Building a site with SiteGround
SiteGround replaced cPanel with Site Tools in 2019, so onboarding runs through that panel. Installing WordPress is a short form under Site Tools, WordPress, Install and Manage: domain, install path and admin credentials. For a no-code route, the SiteGround Website Builder offers a drag-and-drop editor with AI text and image generation, and Coderick AI builds a site or web app from a chat. Trusthost has not bought a test account to walk through this flow first-hand.

SiteGround offers 24/7 support via live chat, a ticketing system and phone, handled by in-house experts. In Websiteplanet's June 2026 test, a phone call connected in under five minutes and live chat replied within four minutes. We have not contacted support ourselves for this update.

What is SiteGround in 2026?
SiteGround is a privately held host founded in 2004 in Sofia, Bulgaria, that runs on Google Cloud Platform and reports over 3 million domains. It replaced cPanel with its own Site Tools panel in 2019. Shared plans start at $2.99/mo for the first year and include a free domain, free daily backups, free email, a CDN and 24/7 support by chat, ticket and phone.
What is new at SiteGround?
AI tooling has spread across the product: every plan includes free AI tokens and an AI Agent for WordPress that manages WordPress and WooCommerce sites by chat, and the Website Builder adds AI text and image generation. SiteGround has also launched Coderick AI, which builds sites and web apps from a chat, and AI Studio for business automation. A free domain name is now listed among the features every plan includes.
What should you watch out for?
Renewals are steep: StartUp goes from $2.99 to $17.99/mo after the first year, about six times the intro price, and plans are prepaid for 12 months. Staging, on-demand backups and the faster PHP setup start on GrowBig, not StartUp. In Websiteplanet's 2026 test, SiteGround recorded 100% uptime, and phone and chat support answered within five minutes.
Is SiteGround right for you?
Good fit if you value Google Cloud performance, strong support ratings, and the new AI website-building tools, and you plan to budget for the renewal price rather than treating the intro rate as ongoing.
Better to avoid if you are strictly budget-conscious and price-sensitive long-term. The StartUp plan's renewal rate is roughly 6 times the intro price, one of the steepest jumps in this category.
